CITY TOURS OF TIMISOARA

Due to the economic boom over the last decade, there's an increasing stream of business people, engineers, specialists a.s.o. visiting Timisoara. Isn't it a pity that most of them don't get to know here more than 1-2 restaurants, a hotel and perhaps a disco? After all, this is one of the most interesting towns of the Eastern Europe!

Timisoara's buildings speak of Maria Theresia and the bloody Revolution of Dec. 1989, of intricate baroque and pest epidemics, of the colonists which streamed here from all over Europe and lived days of joy or despair, together with the native inhabitants.

There is a lot of information within our city tours of Timisoara: from the agitated history of Timisoara / Temeswar up to urban legends, investment climate and the best places to eat and drink. But basically it's a relaxing walk along Timisoara's old neighborhoods.

There is a Small Tour of Timisoara, taking some 2 hours. You'll see the old town center (the former "Inner City" or "Innenstadt") with it's many monuments. If you have three hours at your disposal, book the Medium Tour, and you'll also visit the old Fabric neighborhood, besides the center. And for the Timisoara fans we have the Big Tour, which includes all of the old town areas: the center, the Fabric, the Iosefin and the Elisabetin.

SHORT TRIPS IN THE TIMISOARA AREA / WESTERN ROMANIA

After a hard week's work allow yourself a short dive into the countryside.

As a foreigner in Romania, the environment must look more or less intriguing. Now you can discover the local flavors during your short (long?) stay in Timisoara. We take care that you see as much as possible of the genuine Romania.

For the important guests of the international companies operating around Timisoara / Arad / Deva, this is an excellent opportunity to relax while having a direct contact with the area. When we say "the area", we mean interesting locations betw. 30 - 300 Km from Timisoara. It's all about seeing (...interesting places and fine landscapes), hearing (...their story), tasting (the Romanian cuisine and some excellent wines).

Let us show you how much satisfaction you can have in one week-end or even in one day!

2T1E: South-Western Transylvania - to the Roots of the Middle Age (2 days)

In the surrounding of the small Transylvanian town of Hateg, you can find a strange mosaic of Antiquity and Early Middle Age. How about a stone church built around the year 1000 a.D. from Roman bricks, which by that time already had the venerable age of 800 years? What about the most beautiful medieval castle of South-Eastern Europe, rising proudly its defense towers above a collapsed industrial graveyard?

2T2E: SW Transylvania - Middle Age & Natural Beauties (RETEZAT MTS.) (2 d.)

This tour combines the middle-age monuments of the South-Western Transylvania (part of them also included in the previous proposal) with the natural assets of the Retezat Mountains. Hunedoara Castle, the ancient churches in Strei and Santamaria-Orlea are scheduled in day one, while the second day we have a trekking tour in the heart of the most important national park of Romania.

2T3E: SW Transylvania - Middle Age & Natural Beauties (GODEANU MTS.) (2 d.)

Once again this tour combines the forgotten (but highly valuable) historical sites of the surroundings of Hateg with Carpathian unspoiled nature. Visit the oldest church of Romania (Densus), the huge Roman ruins of Sarmisegetuza and a cemetery whose fence is completely made out of Roman carved stones (all in day 1), and hike on the solitary high-altitude plateaus (2000 - 2100 m a.s.l.) of the Godeanu Mts., on day 2.

2T4E: Banat Mountains - Landscapes and Imperial History (2 days)

Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph described Herculane as "the most famous resort on the continent"; splendid spa architecture combined with a spectacular mountain landscape make Herculane an interesting week-end location. We also visit the narrow Danube's Gorge and the old town center of Oravita, a place where it seems that the time stood still.

2T5E: Industrial Monuments and Peasant Technique in the Banat Mountains (2 d.)

In the era of e-mails and cell-phones, some forgot how it all began... The mountain area of the Southern Banat is actually a huge museum of industrial history. You'll travel along the oldest mountain railway in Eastern Europe and visit a world famous collection of minerals. We'll see a dozen of ancient watter mills and a timber cutter powered by water, still in use. Not to mention the landscapes ...

3T6E: German Middle Age in Transylvania (2 1/2 days)

Surprisingly enough, some researchers say that the medieval German heritage is better preserved in Transylvania than in Germany! We'll see the town Sibiu (former Hermannstadt) with its spectacular defense constructions (fortified walls, towers, bastions) and a lot of Gothic, and some of the village "Kirchenburg"'s (fortress-churches), astonishing citadels built by the peasants for protection in stormy times.

1T7E: Charming Northern Banat - Wooden Churches, Manors and Woods(8hrs-1d)

The perfect choice if you only have one day at dispossal: Northern Banat & Mures Valley is a hilly region covered with deep forest, preserving some beautiful traditional country side. A few old residential manors and small noblemen castles, as well as some ancient wooden churches blend perfectly into the landscape.

1T8E: Tour of the Banat-Swabian Villages (8 hrs)

The flatland to the west of Timisoara was colonised in the XVIII-th ct. by German people known later as the "Banat-Schwabs". They shaped this multicultural area which preserved the flavor of the Austrian-Hungarian, baroque way of life. We'll have some contacts, visit the villages and have a wine-tasting in a former Swabian community.

1T9E: Wine Tasting in Recas (4 hrs) - best option for your afternoons, after work!

After a hard day's work, we can get back in shape with this short afternoon/evening trip. The English run vineyard produces excellent wines, and we'll have the best conditions for a wine tasting and a traditional meal in a select atmosphere. A brief visit to the small local museum will introduce to us the village Recas where five distinct ethnic communities live together.
