Info-trip through the DKMT-Euroregion, route for wine and gastronomy
Within most places we had wine tastings this week, there was some snack for in-between the wines. In Pusztamérges there was "bread with lard" – we're not sure, whether there is any right word in English for this simple central-European food, in German it would be "Schmalzbrot", and in Romanian, "pită cu untură". A bit of paprika and thin slices of red onion make the whole thing more palatable, while the pick of white vs. black bread is at personal choice. Of course, lard coming from a swine of the Mangalitsa (Mangalica, Mangaliţa) breed is the best choice, being lower in cholesterol and more tender in flavour! The focus must stay on the Riesling of Pusztamérges, though!
