High season for city tours in Timisoara
At the end of March the magnolias of Timisoara were in full blossom, the citizens walking on the shores of the Bega river belonged once again to the ordinary images of the city.
And the weather favoured a reasonably high number of city tours conducted by the guides of Tymes Tours. Some of them took only one and a half hours (short walking tours), but we also had a few longer city tours, taking up to six-seven hours (included some breaks in between).
Under normal circumstances, we are not showing to the guests the shores of the Bega, in most cases; the time is short anyway, to present in just two hours all the sites worth seeing. But with the unusually colourful display during the blossom time of the magnolias, we tried to make some exceptions – so, when the guest had enough time, we brought then to the Bega river, as well. Just to mention: Bega has a very interesting history, its past (and the former marshes of the river) is closely connected to the history of Timisoara; this connection goes so far, that the medieval town was baptised "Temesvár", meaning "the fortress (on the river) Timiş", because the "baptisers" (the Hungarians) confused the Bega with the neighbouring river Timis (Temes in Hungarian). So this is now an excellent opportunity to explain such details of the city's history.
