At the beginning of the XX-th century a serious agricultural crisis stroke the Banat. Many inhabitants left for a better future in the USA; they planned to return with substantial money within the next few years, but instead many remained there forever, adding a modest Central-European flavor to the thick American soup. Among the emigrants there where Banat Schwabs, Romanians, Serbians a.s.o.
The offspring generations grew up with their European origins in mind. So now, almost a century after the emigration, the "American Banaters" are showing increasing interest for the homeland of their ancestors. Within this trend, we already organised some short trips to the village of their forefathers. This are highly emotional encounters with houses, gardens, streets, churches, even if the items bear no special tourist significance within themselves.
The new generations of American Banat Schwabs joyned the "Donauschwaben Organisation" (details under www.dvhh.org) having the clear goal of preserving the cultural heritage and re-tying bonds with the homeland Banat. We are proud to be listed among their collaborators "on the spot" and are ready for other trips into the villages of the Banater Puszta.
