The idea of the "alternative" tours of Romania is based on the international trend in group tours: small travel group having a direct approach to the local environment of the destination area: ecological transportation, chosing the local accommodation instead big hotel chains, intensive contact to the local inhabitants. In Europe, the German association of tour operators named "Forum Anders Reisen" stands ahead of this trend, so we guide ourservelves on the same principles. |

Romania is the pefect place to spend a holiday of "alternative tourism". It is the country where many interesting sites can only be reached by small groups on rough roads. In the remote locations you can still feel the instinctual hospitality towards foreigners. The cultural highlights are often "mild and picturesque" rather than "overwhelming and must-see" objectives. Different ethnic groups preserving distinct cultural flavors spice up the offer of Romania's countryside.
Group size: 8-13 guests, plus 1-2 guides and a driver. Concerning the transportation, a van (14+1 seats) is the perfect match for this group size, but we ocasionally use bicycles, boats, horses and horse-dragged carriages, mules and other means which move or can be driven. Tour content, sightseeing: by this we do not mean dozens of museums and cathedrals, but rather seldom visited, isolated places which are more or less forgotten. Main goal is not to visit a uniques site, but to have a competent multi-active presentation so the guests can understand themselves what makes the site being so unique. We've included contacts to interesting private or public persons, people who really have something to say or share. This can be a fanous writer just as well as the nurse of a children asylum. Accommodation and boading: everything is comprised, ranging from the most expensive hotels to the most simple shepherd huts. Please read the information for each tour, respectively. We generally offer full-boarding for the alternative tours, whereas the lunch consists most days of cold meal (bag lunch). ART02E: Eye-catcher Transylvania (9 days) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The Sibiu area in Southern Transylvania reveals an interesting mixture of past ages: shepherd villages nested in the mountains and Gothic citadels in Sibiu and the surrounding Saxon country side. Short hikes between Saxon villages uncover a mild hilly area with astonishing, but forgotten Middle Age monuments in Alma, Mosna, Malancrav and Cris. Some contacts with the locals round up this surprising travel experience.
